To Restore Educational Greatness Then Reinstate God

When growing up and through high school, I often read or heard about the legendary Harvard University.  The quality of education there was considered to be second to none.  The rest of the Ivy League schools were nothing to sneeze at either.  But the focus of this column is Harvard University which was founded in 1636 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from the donation of property and the library of Rev. John Harvard.  Originally called the College at Cambridge, Harvard was the first college in America, being established only sixteen years after the landing of the Pilgrims.   The declared purpose of the college was:  To train a literate clergy.

Prior to the Revolution, ten of the twelve presidents at Harvard were ministers, and according to reliable calculations, over fifty percent of the seventeenth-century Harvard graduates became ministers.  According to historian William J. Federer, 106 of the first 108 schools in America were founded on the Christian faith.  Harvard College was founded in “Christi Gloriam” and later dedicated “Christo et Ecclesiae.”  The founders of Harvard believed that:  Al knowledge without Christ was vain.”  The word Veritas, still on the college seal, means divine truth.  The motto of Harvard was officially:  For Christ and the Church.   At Harvard University, the following inscription remains on the wall by the old iron gate at the main entrance to the campus.  Found also in the catalog of the Harvard divinity school, the dedication reads:

After God had carried us safe to New England and we had builded our houses, provided necessaries for our livelihood, reared convenient places for God’s worship and settled the civil government, one of the next things we longed for and looked after was to advance learning and perpetuate it to posterity, dreading to leave an illiterate ministry to the churches when our present ministers lie in the dust.

Because of a deep an unyielding faith in God and a burning desire to carry out the mission of education according to the highest possible standards, Harvard represented and set the tone for how to keep a nation great through real education.  We all know, what is taught to one generation certainly helps dictate the direction our republic takes in the next generation.  The founders of Harvard were patriots, men of great intellect and of high moral standards which they understood came from the living word of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

There was a concern among the founders of Harvard, that there would come a time when people with a destructive mission of doing away with our exceptional nation, would seek to overturn our exceptional way of life.  Unfortunately, their concerns were well founded.  Eventually, those at the helm of Harvard became lax in the effort to maintain the balance of superior academic development and maintaining the Godly standards that enabled Harvard to be the educational envy of the world.  Like parasites who create nothing, but simply invade and bring about sickness and decline, so have those who have foolishly been allowed to literally control the education process at Harvard.

In May of 1175 Harvard president, Samuel Langdon addressed the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts:

We have rebelled against God, we have lost the true spirit of Christianity, though we retain the outward profession and form of it…. By many, the Gospel is corrupted into a superficial system of moral philosophy, little better than ancient Platonism.  My brethren let us repent and implore the divine mercy.  Let us amend our ways and doings, reform everything that has been provoking the Most High.  Then we must endeavor to obtain the gracious interpositions of providence for our deliverance.  May the Lord hear us in this day of trouble.  We will rejoice in His salvation, and in the name of our God, we will set up our banners!

When I consistently read about the great men of God who lamented their standing in the eyes of our beholder, I shudder at what has been allowed to transpire, both morally and spiritually since those days of excellence.  Hard, like most onetime safe harbors of intellectual development have devolved into mere Godless and unconstitutional dens of evil indoctrination.  It is easy to lay the blame primarily at the feet of those educators poisoning the minds of America’s youth on behalf of Soros, Obama, etc.  But the blame now lies with dufus parents who willingly send their youngsters to have their minds twisted into a poisoned pretzel of intellectual inferiority and moral depravity.  Because of the remaining patriots who fight along with President Trump to make America great again, things have improved.

But to Keep America great “We the People” must according to 2nd Chronicle 7:14 Seek forgiveness for what evil has been wrought and repent.  Then God will hear from Heaven and heal our land for the long term, which will also result in a reemergence of true education throughout the republic.  God bless you, God bless America and may America bless God.  Please feel free to join me on The Ron Edwards American Experience every Friday at 4:00 PM EST, 1:00 PM PT emanating from Am 1180 KCKQ Reno, Nevada to http://www.americamatters.us and America Matters Media on Facebook.
